Terms of use
The rules for using this website and the apps, code and demos I share. Last updated October 26, 2026.
The short version
- Everything here is free, and it comes as is, with no warranty.
- I am not liable for what happens when you use it. Use it at your own risk, and test anything before you rely on it.
- My code is open source: reuse it under its license. My writing is free to share and adapt, with credit.
- My opinions are my own, not my employer's.
This summary is not the terms. The sections below are.
Who these terms cover
These terms cover www.jackzhaojin.com and its subdomains (the website), and the apps, tools, code and demos I build and share (my apps), including any that use Sign in with Google. I am Jack Jin, an individual in Columbus, Ohio, in the United States. This is a personal website, not a business. In these terms, "I" and "me" mean Jack Jin, and "you" means anyone who visits the website or uses one of my apps.
By using the website or one of my apps, you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use them.
Free, and offered as is
The website and my apps are free. I share them to show what I build and what I learn. Demos are experiments: they can change, break, lose data or go offline at any time, without notice, and I have no obligation to keep any of them running or to support them. Some of my apps are personal tools that only I can use.
Open source and reuse
- Code in my repositories. Code I publish on GitHub is open source under the license in each repository, most often the Apache License 2.0. That license, not these terms, governs how you use the code, and it has its own disclaimer of warranties and liability.
- Code samples on the website. Unless marked otherwise, code snippets and samples in my articles are licensed under the Apache License 2.0. Copy them into your own projects.
- Writing and diagrams. Unless marked otherwise, my articles, talk pages and diagrams are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). You can share and adapt them, including commercially, as long as you credit me and link to the original.
- What these licenses do not cover. My name, photos of me or of other people, logos and trademarks, and material that belongs to others, such as slides made with co-speakers, screenshots of other products, quotations and embedded videos. These belong to their owners.
Not professional advice
My articles, talks, code and demos share what I have built and learned. They are for information only. They are not professional, legal, security or financial advice, and they can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Check anything important for yourself, and test code in your own environment before you use it in production.
My views are my own
The opinions on the website are mine. They do not represent my employer, my clients, or any company, community or program I am part of. Products, companies and their trademarks are named only to identify them, and naming them does not mean they endorse me or that I endorse them.
Using the website and my apps
When you use the website or one of my apps, please do not:
- use it to break the law or to violate anyone's rights;
- try to get around its security, sign-in or limits, or reach anything that is not meant for you;
- attack, overload or disrupt it, including with automated tools that strain it;
- put sensitive or personal information into a demo, or anything you cannot afford to lose.
Search engines and AI tools are welcome to read and index the website, as its robots.txt allows. I can block or remove access to any app for anyone who misuses it.
Sign in with Google
When you use Sign in with Google in one of my apps, Google's Terms of Service also apply to your Google account, and the privacy policy says what the app does with the information Google shares.
Links and other services
The website links to and embeds other websites and services, such as GitHub and YouTube. I do not control them, and I am not responsible for their content, availability or policies. Their own terms apply when you use them.
No warranty
THE WEBSITE, MY APPS, AND ALL CODE AND CONTENT I SHARE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OR ACCURACY, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE, SECURE OR FREE OF ERRORS OR HARMFUL COMPONENTS. YOU USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, I AM NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, THAT ARISES FROM OR RELATES TO THE WEBSITE, MY APPS, ANY CODE OR CONTENT I SHARE, OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY ARE POSSIBLE. IF I AM FOUND LIABLE ANYWAY, MY TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS TOGETHER IS LIMITED TO US$50.
Some places do not allow these exclusions or limits. Where you live, they apply only as far as the law there allows, and nothing in these terms limits a liability, or takes away a right, that the law does not allow to be limited or taken away.
Indemnity
If you misuse the website or one of my apps, or break these terms, and that leads to a claim against me, you agree to cover the losses and costs it causes me, including reasonable legal fees, as far as the law allows.
Changes
I can change or stop the website, any app or these terms at any time. If these terms change, I will update them here and change the date at the top. Using the website or my apps after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, in the United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute about them goes to the state or federal courts in Franklin County, Ohio, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it somewhere else.
General
If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If I do not enforce a term right away, I have not given it up. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and me about the website and my apps.
